Performance

It's no secret that Ford is putting their imprint on the electric vehicle space. The Ford Electric F-150 Lighting has a similar body and cabin to the standard F-150, except it swaps the gasoline-powered V-6 and V-8 engine options with electric motors. Users can choose between two battery packs. The Standard-Range battery pack lasts up to 230 miles per charge. In contrast, the Extended-Range battery pack delivers up to 300 miles per charge.

This EV pickup can tow up to 10,000 pounds and comes with an all-wheel drive as its standard option. The performance is second-to-none. With the Standard-Range battery, the electric motors generate 426-hp, while the Extended-Range battery generates 563-hp with 775-lb-ft in torque.

As for charging, the F-150 Lighting can charge from 15 to 80 percent of the battery within 44 minutes. In addition, drivers can charge their truck using a public DC fast charging station or at home with 110 and 220-volt outlets.

Exterior and Interior

Although the F-150 Lighting features a nearly identical exterior and interior design to the standard F-150, the Lighting does have a voluminous front-truck cargo bay and an extra-large infotainment display screen. The Lighting includes a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with the latest Ford Sync 4 software. The Platinum and Lariat models come with an impressive 15-inch display screen. Also, the Lariat model features eight speakers, while the Platinum includes 18 speakers.

There are some noticeable differences between each trim level. The XLT features 18-inch aluminum wheels, the Lariat has gray 20-inch wheels, and the Platinum has 22-inch wheels with black accents. In addition, the Platinum comes with luxurious interior features like Nirvana leather ventilated and heated seats with black stripes. Also, the Lariat and Platinum trims have a retractable power tailgate and fixed running boards.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

With the F-150 Lightning, it comes with a host of safety and driver-assistance features. Ford's new BlueCruise allows the Lightning to go into a semi-autonomous driving mode. In addition, the Lightning comes with safety features such as:
